As the Park District wraps up a very busy summer season, I am excited about the energy that we are building. As we head into the Fall there are some great things happening around the District.
This Fall, be sure to join us for the 4th Annual Warriors Walk. We will be partnering with New Lenox Harry E. Anderson VFW Post 9545 for this 20-mile walk of Old Plank Trail. The walk will end in the Commons with live entertainment, activities, food and more! For more family fun, be sure to join us at Barks ‘n Brews, the Big Bad Pumpkin Party, and our Noon Year’s Eve Party!
Our Friends of the Parks Foundation will once again hold their Empty Bowls event at the Village of New Lenox’s Last Call Before Fall Saturday, September 16, at 1:00pm in the New Lenox Commons. Profits from this event will support the New Lenox Township Food Pantry. They will also host their annual Meta-Mucil 50+ Golf Outing on Tuesday, October 10. Registration for both of these events is available on their website, nlfop.square.site.
Aside from our fun events we also have many unique bus trips to choose from this Fall including, Oktoberfest at Brookfield Zoo, Cinderella at Drury Lane, Christmas Around Chicago Bakery Bus, and Mackinac Island & Frankenmuth, Michigan. Take a trip with us!
The Sanctuary Golf Course was as busy as ever this past Summer. The warm weather kept the driving range packed with new and experienced golfers, and the outings kept The Sanctuary staff very busy. Even though Summer is ending, make sure to check The Sanctuary website for available Fall driving range and tee times!
Your Parks Maintenance Department is actively ensuring that our 39 park sites are staying beautiful and clean! We have been busy this summer on the renovation of our OSLAD Awarded Phase II of Hibernia Park, which we are hoping to have completed later this fall. Without our hard-working staff and extremely supportive community, these amazing parks would not be possible. When you look through the list of parks in the back of our guide or website, why not try a new park, and meet new people in the community you live in.
Remember…try a new program, attend a new event and be active in your community!
Sincerely,
Ted Schulz
Park Board President
